July 2009- Ontario Artist Comissioned to Create Gift for Emperor and Empress of Japan

The Guild Shop is proud to collaborate with the Japanese Consulate, the Government of Ontario, and Ontario Crafts Council (OCC) members to provide gifts to the Royal Family.

OCC member Nick Hally accepted an invitation from the Premier of Ontario to create a one-of-a-kind black velvet lined walnut burl marquetry box, with the provincial trillium flower motif on the lid, that will be gifted to the Emperor and Empress (shown above).

Hally, who runs Maple Hollow Studio in Tickborne, ON with his wife, has been a member of the OCC for over 10 years and has been selling his work through the Guild Shop for the last five, is delighted; "This commission, to be presented by the premier and his wife to the Emperor and Empress of Japan, is a great honour and is the highlight of my career as an artist in wood".  Hally credits the OCC and The Guild Shop for contributing to his success" [They} have been a great source of contacts and customers for our studio. Not only has my work been well received by the public through my association with them, but I have been contacted by many and varied government, corporate and private clients."

The one-of-a-kind skilfully crafted Canadian walnut box was presented to Their Majesties on the afternoon of Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Legislative Building, Queen's Park. For more examples of Nick's work visit us in person or www.maplehollowstudio.com/
